The ultimate goal of certification is to create a culture of patient safety and extraordinary care. Certification benefits the entire healthcare community from the patient to the nurse to the employer or hospital administrator.
RNAS-C certification documents the validation of the professional achievement of identified standards of practice by an individual registered nurse serving in the expanded role of the registered nurse first assistant (RNFA). This voluntary recognition program acknowledges the professional achievement demonstrated when an individual registered nurse’s performance exceeds that required for competent practice in the first assistant role before, during, and after surgery.
